Locate the downloaded file, 1Password-6.x.x.zip in your Downloads folder. Double-click on the 1Password-6.x.x.zip file to extract 1Password. Double-click on the extracted file and select Open when prompted. It will prompt to move 1Password to the Applications folder. Click the Move button Continue with 1Password 6 Setup for Mac. 1Password for Mac 7.6: Never forget a password again with this password management tool.
To uninstall 1Password for Mac
- Quit 1Password completely:
- Open 1Password.
- Hold down the Control and Option keys on your keyboard and choose 1Password > Quit 1Password Completely from the menu bar.
In 1Password 6 and earlier, choose “Quit 1Password and 1Password mini” instead.
- Quit all web browsers.
- In Finder, drag 1Password from the Applications folder to the Trash.
To remove your 1Password data
Important
These steps will remove all your 1Password data from your Mac, including backups.
In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder, then enter the following path and press Return:
Drag any folders with
1Password
in the name to the Trash.

If you see “The folder can’t be found”, click Cancel and skip the next step.

Restart your Mac.
Important
These steps will remove all your 1Password data from your iOS device.
- On the Home screen, touch and hold 1Password until it jiggles.
- Tap the in the top left corner. Confirm that you want to delete 1Password if asked.
To uninstall 1Password for Windows
Windows 10
- Open the Start menu.
- Click(Windows Settings) > Apps.
- Click 1Password, then click Uninstall.
Windows 7 and Windows 8.1
- Open the Start menu and choose Control Panel.
- Click “Uninstall a program”.
- Click 1Password, then click Uninstall.
To remove your 1Password data
Important
These steps will remove all your 1Password data from your Windows PC, including backups.
- Open the Start menu, type
%LOCALAPPDATA%1Password
to find your app data, and open it. - Move the folder named
data
to the Recycle Bin.

- Open your device’s Settings app.
- Select Apps or “Application manager”.
- Tap 1Password, then tap Uninstall.
1Password works everywhere you do. Easily sign in to sites, use suggested passwords, and find what you need. After you install 1Password for Mac, it’ll ask you to turn on 1Password in Safari.
If you’re not using Safari, get to know 1Password in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Brave.
Save a login
To save a login, enter your username and password. Then choose Save in 1Password.
Select a vault, give the login a title, and add any tags. Then click Save Login.
To update an incorrect or incomplete login, make your changes, then choose Save in 1Password and click Update Existing.

To fill an item, click and choose it.
If 1Password suggests more than one item, you can use the arrow keys to select the one you want.

1Password suggests strong passwords when you’re changing a password or signing up for a new account.

To use a suggested password, click in a password field and choose Use Suggested Password.
Create a custom password
You can use 1Password mini to create custom passwords. To open 1Password mini, click in the Safari toolbar and click Generate Password.
Adjust the settings for your new password, then click Save & Copy to use your new password.
